Sweaty summery goodness

July 2, 2009

2:30am on a Thursday.

Tried going to bed around midnight. No such luck.

Sweden’s biggest newspaper claimed the midnight temperature was around 10 degrees celcius — they were wrong.
In reality, it was more like 20c, and we’re now down to 15.

The sun goes up in an hour, as does the temperature.

Given that AC systems are incredibly unheard of in Sweden, this presents a slight problem in that sleeping when it’s warm/hot outside is difficult. How difficult? Three liters of icewater and I’m still sweating. That’s how difficult!

I’m not complaining though! Tomorrow (well, in a few hours) we’ll have 30c in the shade, so somewhere between 35 and 40 in the sun.

Awesomeness!

May 31, 2009

Yesterday’s BBQ was excellent, and the food was simply brilliant.
Definitely going to use Taylors’ for future BBQ supplies.

One thing that wasn’t excellent was me waking up at 4am this morning.

It’s weird, but I simply can’t sleep when I’m hungover, no matter how much I try.
It’s my curse.

To make matters worse, every decent brunch place around here opens at twelve, so I had eight hours to kill before I could cure my hangover.

Eventually, I managed to walk down to Sickla and the always-good Texas Burger Co. there.
Did I mention it’s 25 degrees in the shade, probably around 35 in the sun?

God, I love summer time.

To sleep, perchance to dream

March 8, 2009

Some time after 6am I managed to fall asleep and stay that way until 1pm — without meds.
Finally!

While it does mean I’m in a slightly different time zone, that shouldn’t take too long to fix.

All in all, I’m glad my body no longer aches and that I’m not tired out of my skull.

Time to cook dinner, four hours after getting up?

p.s., the song of the day is Jimmy Eat World – Goodbye Sky Harbor.
The instrumental at the end is just crazy awesome.

Another day, another night.

March 8, 2009

Ahh, the lovely non-sound of 4am.

Yep, it’s another day of not sleeping properly.
I managed to get an hour or so at 9am, and then an hour and a half around 5pm, but other than that, I’ve been awake.

Googling around for information indicates Restless Legs Syndrome, and one of the suggested pharmaceuticals is… Oxycontin.

RLS may be caused by back surgery, or expressed as a side effect of withdrawal from certain opioids.

Basically, my body hurts because it can’t repair itself properly (requires sleep), I can’t sleep because I’m going through Oxycontin withdrawal, and there are no meds I’d like to take that would help.
